Meet Laurie Milne

Rug hooking is more than a hobby for me; it is a passion. For the past 11 years, I have dedicated myself to the creation of unique rugs, pillows, Christmas stockings and ornaments. Using only the finest wools, hand dyed in my kitchen, I have developed a distinctive color palette and a primitive design style that reflects my love of Early American traditions. My work has been featured in exhibits and art galleries, local publications and it can be found in homes throughout the West and across the U.S.

My rug hooking was first influenced by my dear college friend Jenny. Then I traveled to Brunswick, Maine, where I attended a week-long workshop at the home of Marion Ham, rug hooker extraordinaire. I will always be indebted to Marion for teaching me all aspects of rug hooking, from the history of this enduring art form to hooking, dying wool and color planning techniques.

At GET HOOKED! BY LAURIE, I pride myself on the personal attention I provide my clients. Whether by phone, email or in person in my Steamboat Springs studio, I consult with every customer on choosing the right colors and design for their customized project. Clients are free to browse through my portfolio of photos and I am always happy to give an impromptu demonstration on my rug hooking technique.

I also offer private lessons and can create kits tailored to each individual. I welcome any comments, questions or interest in my work. Click here to take a peek at my studio.
